World awareness campaign for the vulnerable people in Afghanistan. Promoting Peace and Human Rights through exhibitions, events, publications on War rugs. Afghan war rugs production arose in 1979 as a result of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. The Mujaheddin then decided to use the rug as a medium of propaganda inciting the population to fight against the armed invaders. The manufacturing continued until 1989 and restarted during the last decade of the Taliban regime. The new production was used once again to proselytize against the Anglo-American occupying force. Some traditional values displayed on old Afghan products were replaced by new iconographies fostering war and jihad. Nowadays, after endless invasions, civil wars and terrorism, Afghanistan is still a long way from attaining an efficient resolution necessary to its population in order to reconstruct its own social and cultural structure. Therefore we wish to use the Afghan war rugs to let people know and deepen into the Afghan socio-political and economical context through useful events, conferences and seminars both in Italy and all over the world. The motto we want to promote, wherever we can do it, is: CALPESTA LA GUERRA. In Italian that means to trample on war, in the sense that, like we trample on the rugs, we would love to tread on war. You too! Join us! |
